Poem: The Resident Owl

– The Resident Owl –

The Great Horned Owl

watches from the bough

solemn and alone

with yellow-eyed glare

spinning its neck

at each swoosh

every rustle

every peep in the night.

Hoo-h’HOO-hoo-hoo

stutters the great horned owl

for love, for substance

before a humorless pulse

takes him to the sky.
